BMW Offroad team aims high for the '09 season.
Three weeks to go before the 2009 season gets into full swing for BMW Motorrad Motorsport´s off road team.
First stop in a campaign filled with highlights and challenges is the opening round of the World Enduro Championship (WEC), to be kicked off on 21-22 March at Penafiel (Portugal). The team has title ambitions in both the E2 and E3 division and therefore signed three new riders for this year: Juha Salminen (FIN, E2) and Marko Tarkalla (FIN, E3) and David Knight (GBR, E3), The ultra-fast trio joins Simo Kirssi (FIN, E2). Juha Salminen will compete at all rounds of the Spanish national championship.
The BMW G 450 X has shown its worth before, and has been further improved in many areas. A lot of effort went into the engine and suspension. Also, a new design is being introduced. With the bike well prepared, riders and team are optimistic to make 2009 a success story.
Juha Salminen - Enduro 2: “Of course my goal is to win the world championship this year, like it is every year. With David, Marko and Simo BMW has a very strong team. I know everyone is excited about the start of the WEC. Personally, I hope that there will be more riders in the Enduro 2 championship fight than just Johnny and myself, but let's see. For the first time in close to 10 years I am riding a new bike, which I hope will bring extra interest to the championship. Everyone in the BMW team has been working hard in recent months improving the bike and getting the very best from each machine. It’s going to be a long, hard championship but I’m really looking forward to it.”
Berti Hauser, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport: „We had a successful learning season in 2008. Now we´re rasing the bar, as our rider line-up certainly shows. The new riders are happy with the bike and those who already competed in 2008 praise the progress we´ve achieved since last fall. We made detailed adjustments and optimised personal settings during plenty of testing hours. The whole team and I are expecting a tough battle against tough opposition. The foundation for a successful 2009 season has been laid, and we will give it our very best. At the end of the day, it´s up to the boys to deliver.“
